Aber schauen Sie selbst… 25 years of THE MADISON – how it all began The hotel was opened by Marlies Head in 1993, kept up with the latest design trends right from the start and has changed considerably over the years. See for yourself … 25 Jahre THE MADISON – wie alles begann 4 1 3 (1) Südliches Flair, das sollte die Lobby in den 90er-Jahren ausstrah- len . Mit Palmen, gemusterten Stoffen und den damals beliebten Rattanmöbeln. Die luftige und großzügige Bauweise war besonders und zog interessierte Architekten an. Und das hat seinen Grund: Als Marlies Head vor 25 Jah- ren einen Namen für ihr Hotel suchte, war damals schon direkt nebenan der Verlag Gruner + Jahr beheimatet. Das brachte sie auf die zündende Idee: „Ich liebe New York – und wo sind dort viele große Verlage ansässig? In der Madison Avenue.“ Drei Silben, kurz, knackig, prägnant: Das MADISON war geboren! Anfangs noch ein Boarding- haus – Appartements zum „Wohnen auf Zeit“ –, wurde das MADISON ein paar Jahre später o ziell zum Hotel. Etwas Besonderes hat es sich aber bis heute bewahrt: Alle Zimmer sind mit einer kompletten Küchenzeile ausge- stattet. Das wissen vor allem Gäste zu schätzen, die sich lange in Hamburg au alten. Zum Beispiel, um TV-Filme und -Serien zu drehen. Heinz Hoenig, Sönke Wortmann, Armin Rohde, Wolfgang Stumph, Til Schweiger oder die Klitschkos sind nur einige der Prominenten, die schon hier zu Besuch waren. There is a reason for this: 25 years ago, when Marlies Head was looking for a name for her hotel, the Gruner + Jahr pub- lishing house was already located right next door. And that led her to a brilliant idea: ‘I love New York – and where are many large publishing houses located there? Madi- son Avenue.’ Three syllables, short, crisp, concise: the MADISON was born! In the beginning, it was conceived as a boarding house – apartments for “temporary living” – but the MADISON officially became a hotel a few years later. And it still preserves a special feature from those times: the rooms are all equipped with a full kitchenette. This is especially appreciated by guests who stay in Hamburg for longer periods.
