Stoffe, die Muster, die Stuhlhussen und
verschiedene Schaumstoffe. Einen tollen
Job hat der Mann: Hagen von Jouanne (52)
beschäftigt sich ausschließlich mit schönen
Themen und Dingen: Welcher Stoff harmoniert mit
welchen Farben und passt zu welchem Design? Wie
bekommen Räume das gewisse Etwas, das Einla-
dend-Gemütliche, ohne zu aufdringlich, plüschig
oder altmodisch zu wirken? Das MADISON ist
Hagen von Jouannes Meisterstück. Und einzig
artig – denn eigentlich arbeitet er nur für Privat
personen, stattet Villen und Stadthäuser aus.
Im MADISON sieht man die Qualität
Ortstermin in Hagen bei Bad Segeberg, knapp 490
Einwohner. Aus diesem Dorf stammt die Familie
des Designers. Daher auch der Vorname. 1995 hat
Hagen aus Hagen hier einen ausgemusterten
Landwirtschaftsbetrieb gekauft und aufwändig
restauriert. MADISON-Inhaberin Marlies Head
steht im ersten Stock des alten Kuhstalls, der zum
500 m

großen Design-, Polsterei- und Produk
tionsloft umgestaltet wurde, und streicht über die
Stoffmuster. „Ach, das würde auf der Terrasse ja
vielleicht auch ganz hübsch aussehen.“ Wer ins
MADISON kommt, sieht sofort die Arbeit des
Meisters: Die Rundbank im Foyer hat er eingeklei-
det, ist für alle Stuhlhussen, Polster, Bänke, Sofas,
Gardinen und Möbel in den Zimmern zuständig,
die er auch in Schuss hält. Fast täglich kommt er
dafür zur Besprechung im Hotel vorbei. Auf einem
der Produktionstische wird gerade ein Koffer-Pouf
aus dem MADISON von einem seiner acht
Mitarbeiter neu bezogen. „Das ist speziell entwi-
ckeltes veganes Leder aus der Autoindustrie, das
eigentlich für Sitze genutzt wird“, erklärt Hagen
von Jouanne. „Sehr hochwertig, dick und extrem
strapazierfähig.“ Marlies Head hakt ein: „Das ist
auch wichtig! Schließlich werden da jeden Tag
schwere Koffer draufgewuchtet. Und die

being overly brash, kitschy or old-fashioned? THE
MADISON is Hagen von Jouanne’s masterpiece.
It is also unique, because he usually only works
for private clients, designing the interiors of villas
and townhouses.
The quality shows at the MADISON
We have an appointment in Hagen, near Bad
Segeberg, a village with around 490 inhabitants.
The designer’s family comes from this village –
hence the first name. In 1995, Hagen from Hagen
bought a disused farm here and extensively
restored it. The MADISON owner Marlies Head is
standing on the first floor of the old cowshed –
which has been transformed into a 500 m
2
design,
upholstery and production loft – and is stroking
the fabric swatches. ‘Oh, that would look really
lovely on the terrace.’ Anyone who comes to the
MADISON will instantly see the work of a master:
he covered the round bench in the foyer and he is
also responsible for all of the seat covers, uphol-
stery, benches, sofas, curtains and furniture in the
rooms, which he also keeps in good condition. To
do this, he drops into the hotel for a meeting
almost on a daily basis. A luggage pouffe from the
MADISON is currently being re-covered on one of
the production tables by one of his eight employ-
ees. ‘This is specially developed vegan leather
from the automotive industry, which is actually
used for seats,’ explains Hagen von Jouanne. ‘It is
very high quality, thick and extremely hard-wear-
ing. Marlies Head adds: ‘That is really important!
