Ob Gorch Fock, Alexander von Humboldt oder Rickmer Rickmers, die außergewöhnliche „Fla- schenpost“ kann man in den unterschiedlichsten Buddel- und Schiffsvarianten bestaunen. Seit wann gibt es Buddelschiffe? Im Allgäu und im Erzgebirge ist die Kunst, Dinge oder Szenen in eine Flasche zu bringen (Einge- richte), nahezu 300 Jahre alt. Doch erst um 1850, als die großen Segelschiffe die Ozeane befuhren, wurden Schiffsmodelle – oft bei Flauten und aus Langeweile der Seeleute – in Flaschen „abgefüllt“. Wie kommt das Schiff in die Buddel? Bei Buddel-Bini (Barmbeker Straße 171) werden die Flaschenschiffe noch in liebevoller Handar- beit hergestellt. Mit dem Heck voraus und nach hinten umgelegten Masten wird der Schiffsrumpf durch den Hals in die Flasche gelegt. Mithilfe verlängerter Zugfäden werden die Masten in der Buddel wieder aufgerichtet. They are a typically northern German sou- venir – seafarer’s art with a long tradition: ships in bottles! Whether Gorch Fock, Alexander von Humboldt or Rickmer Rickmers, these extraordi- nary works of art can be admired in a wide range of bottle and ship designs. How long have ships in bottles been around? In the Allgäu and Erzgebirge, the art of placing things or scenes in a bottle is almost 300 years old. Yet it wasn’t until around 1850, when the big sailing ships took to the oceans, that bottles were ‘filled’ with ship models – often in a dead calm when the sailors were bored. How does the ship get into the bottle? The ships in bottles are still lovingly made by hand at Buddel-Bini (Barmbeker Straße 171). The hull is inserted through the neck of the bottle stern first with the masts lowered to the rear. The masts are hoisted upright with the help of extended threads once the ship is inside the bottle.
