Hamburg, do you remember? In 1986 “Cats” had its German premiere in St. Pauli. Your first permanent musical. For nearly 15 years, the cats sang, danced and meowed. And just look at you today: You are now Germany’s musical capital, number three in the world just behind New York and London. And for that you can proudly pat yourself on the church spire. The cats are still here, but now they roar and are a lot bigger. They’ve been dancing and singing for the past 21 years in “The Lion King”. From Africa, you can now even mosey right over to the ice paradise of “Frozen”. Where else can you find that? And then there’s the ferry ride over to the other side of the Elbe. Your illuminated skyline – Wow! But Princess Elsa is not the only enchanting one here: Until August, she has the support of the witches of “Wicked”. Not to forget, of course, “Harry Potter” with its gigantic 42 million Euro production. That stupid C-thing - you know what! – almost snapped the magic wand of the world’s most famous apprentice. But with a delay of one and a half years the premiere could luckily still take place. Phew, I was really trembling there. And I can tell you: We have some serious catching up to do! Fortunately, “Hamilton” about America’s founding father has arrived just in time. But what I’m most excited about is that the ABBA musical “Mamma Mia!” will be back in September! Hopefully, a MADISON guest will take me with them. It should be possible to fit a rubber ducky like me into your pocket. And I’ll sing along loud and proud, “Thank you for the musicals...” I promise, your MAX MADISON amburg, weißt du noch? 1986 hatte „Cats“ in St. Pauli Deutschlandpremiere. Dein erstes dau- erhaftes Musical. Fast 15 Jahre sangen, tanzten, miauten die Katzen. Und schau dich heute an: Du bist deutsche Musicalhauptstadt, nach New York und London sogar die weltweite Nummer drei. Da kann man sich schon mal stolz auf die Kirchturmspitze klopfen. Katzen sind immer noch da, allerdings brüllen die jetzt und sind größer. Tanzen und singen tun sie aber immer noch – seit 21 Jahren im „Der König der Löwen“. Von Afrika kann man jetzt sogar – schwupps – direkt ins Eisparadies zur Eiskönigin rüberschlendern. Wo gibt’s das schon? Und dann die Anfahrt mit der Fähre auf die andere Elbseite. Deine Stadtlichter – wow! Aber Eiskönigin Elsa verzaubert nicht allein: Bis August hat sie Unterstützung durch die Hexen von „Wicked“. Und natürlich von „Harry Potter“, mit einer gigantischen 42-Millionen-Euro-Produktion. Das doofe C-Ding – du weißt schon was – hätte dem berühmtesten Lehrling der Welt fast den Zauberstab geknickt. Doch dann konnte die Premiere doch noch mit 1,5 Jahren Verspätung stattfinden. Puh, habe ich mitgezittert. Ich sag dir: Wir haben was nachzuholen! Da kommt „Hamilton“ über den amerikanischen Gründervater genau richtig. Aber worauf ich mich am meisten freue: Das ABBA-Musical „Mamma Mia!“ ist im September zurück! Hoffentlich nimmt mich ein MADISON-Gast mit. So ein Quietscheentchen sollte doch in die Tasche passen. Das Stück läuft im Mehr!-Theater und in zwei Teilen. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” It is more theater than musical, but worth seeing.
