Das ist eigent- lich ganz einfach,“ Nicole Sitzlach, die im Mai 50 Jahre wird, sitzt in ihrem Büro und lächelt. „Ich bin die Abteilungsleiterin für das Housekeeping und mit meinem Team dafür zuständig, dass Zimmer und Hotel sauber sind.“ Aber so einfach ist es dann doch nicht: Der Job als Hausdame ist eine komplexe Angelegenheit. Und das beginnt bei der Auswahl der Mitarbeiter. Alle im Team sind fest angestellt „Viele Bewerber haben keine Schulbildung und oft einen Migrationshintergrund ohne Deutschkennt- nisse,“ erzählt Nicole Sitzlach. „Sie bringen also nur sich selbst mit. Da braucht man eine ziemlich gute Menschenkenntnis.“ Und die hatte sie in den letzten 26 Jahren: Alle Frauen und Männer in ihrem Team sind fest angestellt, die meisten seit über 10 Jahren dabei. Das MADISON zahlt Weiterbildungen wie Deutschkurse und vor allem ein Gehalt über dem Mindestlohn. Leider noch immer eine Ausnahme in der Hotellerie. „Wer gut ist, kann sich außerdem hocharbeiten, eigenstän- dig Zimmer kontrollieren und vielleicht irgend- wann selbst Assistentin oder Hausdame werden.“ Die Arbeitszeit muss zum Leben passen Das Wichtigste sind jedoch die Arbeitszeitmodelle, die Nicole Sitzlach zusammen mit Hotel-Chefin Marlies Head entwickelt und eingeführt hat. „Viele der Zimmermädchen sind Mütter, haben noch einen Haushalt zu führen,“ erzählt die Hausdame. „Ich bin selbst alleinerziehend und weiß, wie einen das zerreißen kann. Darum ist es wichtig, dass die Arbeitszeit zum Leben passt. Nicht umgekehrt.“ Ihre Mitarbeiter können flexibel 5, 6 oder 8 Stunden arbeiten. Nicole Sitzlach erstellt deshalb täglich einen neuen Plan. „Das ist zwar viel Arbeit, aber dafür habe ich motivierte und glückliche Kollegen.“ W What does the head of housekeeping do? “It’s quite simple really,” says Nicole Sitzlach, who will celebrate her 50th birthday in May. She sits in her office and smiles. “I lead the housekeeping department. My team and I are responsible for ensuring that the rooms and hotel are clean.” But it isn’t really quite that simple. Being in charge of housekeeping is a complex affair, and it begins with the staff you choose. All of our team are permanent employees “Many applicants have no school education and are often from an immigrant background without any knowledge of German,” explains Nicole Sitzlach. “So they just bring themselves. Which means you need a pretty good way with people.” And that is something she has acquired over the past 26 years. All of the men and women in her team are permanent employees; most of them have been there for over ten years. The MADISON pays for further education such as German courses, and it pays above the minimum wage – which, unfortunately, is still unusual in the hotel industry. “If you’re good, you can work your way up, check rooms yourself, and even become an assistant or head of housekeep- ing one day.” Working hours have to suit your life Most important of all, however, is the working hours model that Nicole Sitzlach developed and intro- duced with hotel owner Marlies Head. “Many of the chambermaids are mothers and have their own households to run,” says the head of housekeeping. “I myself am a single parent and I know how torn you can feel. That’s why it’s important for working hours to suit your life, not the other way around.” Her staff can work flexibly for five, six or eight hours.
