ei unserem Termin im Miniatur Wun- derland wird schnell klar, wer hier der Star ist: Als Gründer Gerrit Braun mit uns durch die Hallen schlendert, werden Handys gezückt, Fotos gemacht und kurz mal die bunte Miniatur-Welt drumherum vergessen. Die Besucher kennen ihn und seinen Zwillingsbruder Frederik. Vielleicht, weil er einen Kindheitstraum verwirklicht hat. Stellvertretend für sie alle. „Es ist schon verrückt“, erzählt Gerrit Braun, „dass aus einer kleinen Idee, die viele am Anfang mit Kopf- schütteln weggewischt haben, so etwas Großes wird.“ In Zahlen ausgedrückt: 1.040 Miniaturzüge mit über 10.000 Wagons fahren über 15.400 Meter Gleise auf einer Gesamtfläche von 7.000 Quadratmetern durch das Miniatur Wunderland – die inzwischen größte Modelleisenbahnanlage der Welt. Und weil so ein Wunderland natürlich auch Einwohner braucht, erleben 263.000 Figuren alle Facetten des mensch- lichen Daseins. Das ist auch die Idee: „Wir bilden hier die Welt im Miniaturformat ab, und deshalb ist sie drinnen genau wie draußen immer in Bewegung“, so der 51-Jährige. Das gilt auch für Automarken: Seit ein paar Jahren befahren immer mehr SUVs unsere Straßen – also mussten sie auch ins Miniatur Wunderland Einzug erhalten. „Manchmal wird einem im Kleinen noch bewusster, dass im Großen was schiefläuft“, erzählt Gerrit Braun. Er würde gern noch politischer werden. Natürlich geht es aber auch um Träume – die Besucher sollen staunen, sich wohlfühlen und ein paar Stunden in eine Traumwelt abtauchen. Kurz mal wieder Kind sein. B „Als das Miniatur Wunderland an den Start ging, hatten wir mit 10 Mitarbeitern gerechnet. Heute sind es 350.“ ‘When Miniatur Wunderland was launched, we had 10 employees. Gerrit Braun leads us through the halls; mobile phones are pulled out of pockets, photos are taken and the colourful miniature world is quickly forgotten about. The visitors know him and his twin brother Frederik. Possibly because he has realised a child- hood dream. For all of them. ‘It’s crazy,’ says Gerrit Braun, ‘that from a small idea that many people shook their heads at and dismissed in the beginning has become something so big.’ Expressed in numbers, this means 1,040 miniature trains with over 10,000 carriages travelling over 15,400 metres of track on a total area of 7,000 square metres through the Miniatur Wunderland – now the largest model railway in the world. And because such a wonderland naturally needs inhabitants, there are also 263,000 figures here experiencing all the facets of human existence. And that’s also the idea behind it: ‘Here, we depict the world in miniature format and that’s why it’s always in motion inside just like the real world out- side,’ says the 51-year-old. This also applies to car brands: for a few years now, more and more SUVs have been driven on our roads, so it follows that they also had to be incorporated into Miniatur Wunder- land. ‘Sometimes with small worlds, you become even more aware that things are going wrong in the big one,’ says Gerrit Braun. He would love it to become more political, but of course it is also about dreams: visitors should feel amazed, comfortable and immerse themselves in a dream world for a few hours.
