Bis heute hat sie künstlerischen Einfluss auf die Produktion. Ihr Klang macht die Songs so einzigartig.“ Seit rund fünf Jahren ist der 58-Jäh- rige für die Besetzung und die Umsetzung auf der Bühne zuständig. Vorher spielte er in Hamburg selbst fast 13 Jahre lang Scar, den intriganten Onkel von Simba. Alle Kostüme sind maßgeschneidert Auf der Bühne proben die Darsteller für ihren abendlichen Auftritt, singen, tanzen. Ein Klang- teppich wabert im Backstage-Bereich durch die engen Gänge, die Maske, das Atelier. Überall hängen kleine Lautsprecher. Die 230 Mitarbeiter sollen jederzeit akustisch mitkriegen, was gerade auf der Bühne passiert. An einer langen Stange hängen die Kostüme, die jedem der 54 Darsteller auf den Leib geschneidert und auch auf die unterschiedlichen Hautfarben abgestimmt sind. So hat jedes Hyänenkostüm eine eigene Farbkom- position. 350 Kostüme sind es insgesamt, alles Unikate. Auch die Materialien und Ornamente sind besonders, haben alle eine Bedeutung und spiegeln den Geist Afrikas wieder. Seide, Perlen, spirituelle Zeichnungen, sehr viele Naturmateria- lien. „Die Zuschauer sehen diese ganzen kleinen Details vielleicht nicht, aber sie spüren sie“, ist sich Willi Welp sicher. „Die Darsteller tragen ihre Kostüme mit Stolz, bewegen sich anders darin als in normalen Theaterkostümen.“ Ein Musical für Groß und Klein Festgehalten ist das alles in den „Bibeln“, acht dicken Ordnern, die in der Kostümabteilung “African performers have a certain colour in their voice. Musical for young and old All of this is recorded in the ‘bible’, eight thick folders that stand in the costume department and contain inspiration for every single outfit, includ- ing materials and colours.
