Dabei trifft er auf seinen Sohn, zu dem er seit 30 Jahren kei- nen Kontakt mehr hat. Die Mitarbeiter sind auch toll und haben immer ein offenes Ohr für Marotten. Maria vom Service zum Beispiel bewahrt eine Dose Chai-Tee der Bremer Teemanufaktur für mich auf. Mein absoluter Lieblingstee. Auch wenn ich mal ein Dreivierteljahr nicht hier bin, weiß ich: Die Dose steht immer noch da. Was machst du in Hamburg am liebsten? Bock: Ich bin gern in Övelgönne und mag die Alster. Früher sind wir von Kiel zum Shoppen ins Karoviertel gefahren – da könnte ich eigentlich auch mal wieder hin. Ich liebe das Sauerfleisch mit Bratkartoffeln im „Brodersen“ und gehe gern ins „Nil“, das Restaurant gehört einer Freundin. Zu deinem Job … Bock: Ja, langsam wird’s Zeit … (lacht) Du hast mit bekannten Regisseuren wie Spielberg und Tarantino gedreht. In der Netflix-Serie „Better call Saul“ spielst du auch mit. Was ist anders in Hollywood? Bock: Das Ausbleiben von Eitelkeiten. Ich habe dort tolle Menschen kennengelernt, die mich sehr offen aufgenommen haben. Aber mein Herzensprojekt ist gerade etwas anderes … Dann erzähl mal. Bock: „Atlas“ ist eine sehr konzentrierte Vater-Sohn-Geschichte, in der es um Schuld, Verantwortung und das Ausbleiben derselben geht. Der Film macht etwas mit dem Zuschauer, ist berührend und auch kritisch. Meine Figur ist intellektuell nicht so stark, sondern hat die Kraft eher in den Armen. So eine Rolle habe ich noch nie angeboten bekommen. Zur Vorbereitung habe ich dann auch ein Dreivierteljahr in der Mucki- bude verbracht. (mehr zum Film, siehe rechts) Für deine Rolle bist du gerade als bester Schauspieler ausgezeichnet worden. Bock: Ja. Und „Atlas“ ist auch in der Voraus- wahl für den Deutschen Filmpreis. Das macht schon ein bisschen stolz. Wir drücken die Daumen! Uns macht es übrigens stolz, dich immer wieder im MADISON begrüßen zu dürfen. Nächstes Mal kommen wir aber erst mal zu dir – ins Kino. Tausend Dank für das Gespräch! It sounds like you have a real connection with the place … Bock: Absolutely! The staff are also brilliant and always have an open ear to my whims. Maria from the service team, for example, keeps a jar of chai tea from a Bremen-based tea company for me at the hotel. It’s my absolute favourite tea. Even if I haven’t been here for most of the year, I know that the jar is still there. What do you like doing best in Hamburg? Bock: I like going to Övelgönne and I like the Alster. We used to travel from Kiel to go shopping in the Karoviertel – I will never get bored of going there. I love the pickled pork and home-fried potatoes at ‘Brodersen’ and I also like dining at ‘Nil’ – the restaurant is owned by a friend. Let’s talk about your job … Bock: Yes, I guess we should … (laughs) You have worked with famous directors such as Spielberg and Tarantino. You also appear in the Netflix series Better Call Saul. What is different in Hollywood? Bock: The absence of any kind of vanity. I have met some fantastic people there, who have welcomed me with open arms. But the project close to my heart is elsewhere … Tell us about it. Bock: Atlas is a highly concentrated father-son story about guilt, responsibility and the absence of these things. The film does something with the viewers; it is moving as well as critical. My character is not really intellectually gifted, but is physically strong. I have never been offered such a role before. To prepare for it, I spent nine months pumping iron in the gym. (See right for more on the film) You have just won the best actor award for your performance. Bock: Yes. And Atlas has also been shortlisted for the German Film Awards. That makes me quite proud. We’ll keep our fingers crossed!
